Emmanuel N. Pothos, Ph.D., is Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Pharmacology at Tufts University School of Medicine and Program Director of the Graduate Program in Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics at the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at Tufts. Dr. Pothos also serves as the School of Medicine’s “Principles of Addiction Medicine” course director and is a faculty member of the Graduate Program in Neuroscience. He has been the Walter Sonneborn Katz NARSAD Young Investigator and a recipient of grants through the Medical Foundation and NIH (NIDA and NIDDK).
A neuroscientist and neuropharmacologist, Dr. Pothos’s laboratory research focuses on the study of synaptic plasticity in central dopamine systems, which are closely linked to addictive disorders, obesity and Parkinson’s disease. Pothos colleagues are examining whether obesity is, in fact, an addictive disorder that involves the same pathways in the brain as those involved with drug abuse.
