Mark Pokras, DVM

Dr. Pokras helped found the Tufts Center for Conservation Medicine and is the former director of the Tufts Wildlife Clinic. He is an associate professor at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Additionally, he regularly consults for a variety of private, state and federal wildlife and environmental agencies on issues of environmental health and policy. His interests include the medicine and surgery of native wildlife, aquatic birds as indicators of environmental health, and conservation biology. Dr. Pokras’ research has focused on studying mortality factors in common loons and he is widely recognized for his work on lead poisoning.
