Christina D. Economos, Ph.D., is Associate Professor at the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University, Associate Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine and Vice-Chair and Director of ChildObesity180. Since 2003, Dr. Economos has served as the Associate Director of the John Hancock Research Center on Physical Activity, Nutrition and Obesity Prevention at Tufts University and in 2005 was named the New Balance Chair in Childhood Nutrition.
She is the principal investigator of multiple large-scale studies examining childhood nutrition and physical activity with the goal of inspiring behavior, policy, and environmental change to improve the health of America’s children including Shape Up Somerville: Eat Smart, Play Hard and Live Well: Assessing and Preventing Obesity in New Immigrants. She currently serves as an appointed member of the Institute of Medicine’s Standing Committee on Childhood Obesity and also serves as chair of the Public Policy committee for the American Society of Nutrition. From 2010 – 2012, Dr. Economos served as an appointed member of the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Accelerating Progress in Obesity Prevention. She recently participated as a panelist on the TEDMED Great Challenges series addressing childhood obesity.
